How long have you been tutoring children in reading?

Orton Gillingham services provided since 1981

Do you spend any of the session helping the student with homework, or do you concentrate only on remediation?

Our priority is to provide reading remediation in every session.  If however, and only at the request of the parents, we may agree to incorporate parts of homework through the Orton Gillingham method, and if the child is severely behind or failing their core subjects.

Will I be expected to work with my child at home between sessions?

Yes, 5 to 6 days a week is recommended depending on the severity of the dyslexia and the desired outcome.

How often will you provide feedback to me on my child’s progress, and in what format?

Developmental dyslexia is a neurological disorder and even with the best remediation and care and hard work by the student and parent, progress can be slow.  Therefore students are evaluated each 100 sessions.

However parents will be able to track progress in their child’s daily work sheets.

What is your hourly fee?  What happens if my child has to miss a session?

We use a sliding fee school that allows parents to have their child supported for as long as it takes to see them succeed

How many sessions per week do you recommend?  (Twice a week is minimum for a dyslexic child)

The Reading Center recommends 2 times per week for tutoring, though we do work with the parents for more or less sessions per week.

Could we schedule a free consultation so that I can meet you and see your office?

Yes, our initial consultation with a parent and child is at no charge.
