The Adirondack Reading Center has had an incredible impact on my daughter’s journey to read! Before discovering the Adirondack Reading Center, my daughter struggled significantly with little support from her school. However, I have witnessed a remarkable transformation since beginning her sessions with Adirondack Reading Center. She went from a non-reader to reading words within a 2-week time. The complex concepts involved in reading were broken down and explained to my daughter in a way that made sense to her. She has gained the confidence she lacked and now approaches reading with more enthusiasm and self-assurance than I ever thought possible. Their dedication and expertise in nurturing her abilities have made a world of difference in our lives! Denise Pardo |
My son was diagnosed with dyslexia as a teen. After doing much research, I knew that Orton Gillingham was the way to go. I found Pete on a list of Orton Gillingham practitioners and am so thankful that I did! Pete has been nothing short of amazing! From the very first meeting, it was evident that he genuinely cared about my son’s success. Pete’s kind and encouraging demeanor instantly put my son at ease, which is no small feat given how overwhelming learning can sometimes feel for someone with dyslexia. Pete has a way of building trust and creating a safe, positive environment where mistakes are not something to fear but an opportunity to learn and grow. Pete’s patience and warmth shine through with every interaction. He constantly celebrates my son’s progress. This supportive approach has helped transform how my son views himself—not only as a reader but as a learner. As time went on, my son’s reading improved dramatically and so did his confidence. They have a warm, friendly, yet professional relationship. I would be remiss not to mention how smoothly Karen runs the office. She is an absolute delight to work with. Karen shares Pete’s commitment to kindness and professionalism. Together, they’ve created a nurturing atmosphere that feels more like a family than a tutoring service. Thanks to Pete and Karen, my son has not only improved his reading skills but has also gained confidence and a renewed sense of self-worth. I cannot recommend them highly enough to anyone seeking a compassionate and effective approach to dyslexia support! Abby Gerstain |
Karen and Pete, We just wanted to say thank you both for your services to our two grand daughters. The services you provided were perfectly matched to their needs as students with severe dyslexia. The time line and growth line grids you provided, along with the other benchmarks you provided really showed us the effectiveness of the Orton Gillingham approach. We are so glad that we found you to help our grandchildren. They are doing so well in school now and are much happier when doing their homework. Pat & Carl Flood |
Pete, We cannot thank you enough for your care and services to our son. Your Reading Center was the only voice to tell us that our son could learn to read. Both our public school and a regional educational center essentially told us there was no hope; that his dyslexia was too severe and too multi-faceted. You and Karen were great from start to finish working with him. He not only learned to read but has gained several years growth in his reading skills. He is now in high school and ready to graduate being able to read successfully, thanks to you. This is a far cry from being told he could never learn to read. Phil & Sue Johnson |
Pete and Karen, Thanks, thanks, thanks for your services to our kids. You are both so positive and supportive in the face of their severe challenges with their dyslexia. The way that you explained aspects of their dyslexia to them as well as us is amazing. They have grown so much with you. They are able to begin to tackle reading like we always hoped they could but feared that they would not be able to. We also greatly appreciate the emotional support that you provide and the extreme care that you take when teaching them to express openly and effectively how hard reading is for them on most days due to their dyslexia. Your Reading Center has been such a huge help in allowing their attention and focus to grow. My husband and I feel is is a large weight that has lifted off their shoulders. We are very grateful. Pete, Thank you and Karen for all your help with my son. Your services with him and our family have made all the difference in his journey to literacy. Your approach to include our entire family with the Orton-Gillingham approach is unbeatable. We all feel so relieved to have our son get the help that he needs for his dyslexia. Casey Scoville |
Mr G, As I have said before, we have truly been blessed by your knowledge and support. I truly believe it is the one thing that has helped Lauren to learn to read. I know the COVID has not been so fortunate for others, but it brought us you and I don’t believe we would’ve found you, if it weren’t for COVID. I can’t thank you enough for all of the support you have given her. She is such a happy child again. She looks forward to going to school again. She has even joined the Xylophone Club. Thank you for giving her back the confidence in herself and the ability to read to learn. May God Bless You and your family, Tina |
I am a parent of a daughter who is profoundly dyslexic and I am writing this testimonial for all parents concerned about their child’s literacy. When our daughter was in first grade, we knew something was wrong in our daughter’s printing the alphabet. We were told by her teacher that she was young and would grow out of the struggle to print the letters. In second grade, when her inaccurate letter printing and recognition continued, she began to struggle with accurate sounds for the letters, even letters she knows. We were told all students progress at different rates for their ability and development and she may be a learner at a different and slower pace. In third grade, our daughter had a glaring inability to read and spell her third-grade material. The school reluctantly said she may need extra help, which was given mid school year after her testing. At that time, we were very worried when the testing for our daughter showed a minimal need for services to help her with reading and spelling. Extra help in reading was provided to our daughter in a specialized reading program in school but we found the specialized instruction was the same reading instruction she was given in her regular classroom and in which she had shown no progress. With no help coming from the school, we decided it was time to seek help outside the school for our daughter. We checked with our pediatrician and were referred to a neuropsychologist who arranged for a consult with Dr. Howard Rome of the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. That is when the help really began for our daughter. She was thoroughly evaluated for dyslexia and then we were referred to Peter Gallo, who was trained by Dr. Rome to specifically help dyslexic children, teen and adults. Our daughter benefitted from the first day in specialized reading instruction with Peter who used the original medical model of the Orton Gillingham approach. The progress was immediate for our daughter. She continued to make good gains and over time gained the years she was behind in reading, spelling and writing and brought her to grade level. We, as parents, and our daughter, cannot recommend Pete’s reading services any higher. Juanna Bigham |
As a part of my professional roles as a physician, psychiatrist, professor and faculty chairperson supervising and overseeing graduate students, I was the academic advisor for Peter Gallo for his entire two-year graduate program and CAS (Certificate of Advanced Study – beyond 60 credit masters) in counseling and psychotherapy with a specialized training in treating mild, moderate, severe and profound dyslexia. Peter’s program focused on helping children, adolescents and adults effected by dyslexia. Peter’s certificate of Advanced Study at the Graduate School level furthered his special skills in the detection, diagnosis and remediation of those perceptual handicaps which constitute the syndrome of Developmental Dyslexia. Peter excelled at learning and applying the original medical model of the Orton-Gillingham methodology and because of this skill was often given the most challenging students who were deeply affected emotionally, behaviorally and psychologically by having dyslexia. His work with families of these students was also very effective which further helped students that he worked with. I cannot recommend Peter more highly to you for addressing concerns and treating any needs that your child, adolescent or adult who has reading challenges, and especially those affected by dyslexia. For any parents, grandparents or teachers worried about loved ones and people they care for that struggle with reading at any level, but especially with Developmental Dyslexia, I highly recommend the Adirondack Reading Center for reading services. The Reading Center uses the original and most complete and thorough Orton Gillingham model and approach. Peter is specifically trained at the graduate level and advanced graduate level of study to work with students and their families on emotional, behavioral and psychological levels; all areas that are significantly affected by not reading at functional reading levels. I was especially impressed how Peter explained to all his students how the human brain works and how the student’s with dyslexia particular brain works to learn how to read and spell. When teaching students about how the human brain learns to read, combined with teaching all students the detailed structure of the English language, each student finds relief in fining that they can learn to read and spell effectively. Peter’s students are empowered to develop visual memory, auditory memory and kinesthetic (touch/tactile) memory input for developing reading and spelling skills. Peter emphasizes training the human brain to organize specific and critical literacy information for accuracy of memory recall. The mastery of student’s learning all vowels and all their different sounds, consonants that make more than one sound, and syllable patterns which results in reading progress, that is very noticeable for each student. Peter discusses with each student the beneficial differences of being smart and also being a good thinker, as well as teaching and showing clearly in each reading session specifically why the student is smart and a good thinker. This comprehensive and specialized approach addresses the students’ needs in the emotional and psychological areas and unburdens the student with the effects that come with reading challenges. This is especially true in the most severe reading challenges found in Developmental Dyslexia. I have seen and received feedback from parents about the emotional and behavioral burdens lifted from students at all levels of dyslexia upon receiving reading services at the Adirondack Reading Center. I cannot recommend any facility more highly for quality and comprehensive reading services than the Adirondack Reading Center. Margherite Bonaventure MD |
